Kate Winslet Reveals Wardrobe Mishap During Her Meeting With King Charles: Oh My God
Kate Winslet almost suffered a major royal mishap the first time she met King Charles.
The “Titanic” actress met then-Prince Charles at a premiere decades ago, when she said it hadn’t occurred to her that she would be in the company of a royal.
“He’s a very gentle and gracious individual, but he’s the king, and it’s an extraordinary thing to know him,” Winslet said during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Tuesday.

“The first time I met him, oh my God, he came to support the premiere, it was a real premiere, of ‘Sense and Sensibility,’” Winslet said, adding that she was “only 20 years old” at the time.
“I kind of didn’t realize we were actually going to meet him, so I kind of forgot about the fact that he was wearing some kind of see-through lace outfit,” the “Avatar” actor shared.
“And thank you God I had put on a coat because as he was coming towards me, I was thinking, ‘Nipples, nipples, nipples, oh my God!'” she said. “And someone just said, ‘Coat!’ and I said: ‘Your Majesty!’ “Basically covering myself with a cape.”

While people are often nervous about meeting members of the royal family, Prince William once spoke about an interaction with a celebrity that still leaves him “shuddering” when he thinks about it.
During an episode of the Apple Fitness+ series “Time to Walk” back in 2021, William talked about a night when he was watching Jon Bon Jovi perform, while the prince was sitting next to Taylor Swift.
“I had no idea what was going to happen next. I’m sitting next to Taylor Swift. She’s on my left. And after Jon sings his first song, there’s a pause and she turns to me,” the royal said. “She puts her hand on my arm, looks me in the eyes and says, ‘Come on, William. Let’s sing.'”
The prince said, “To this day, I still don’t know what happened to me.”
“Honestly, even now I feel embarrassed about what happened next, and I don’t understand why I gave in,” he said, adding the caveat that “if Taylor Swift looks you in the eyes, touches your arm, and says, ‘Come with me,’ you basically do what she says.”

The royal said she then “went on stage in a trance” but woke up “about halfway through Jon Bon Jovi’s ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’.”
“I ask myself, ‘Am I standing on stage singing “Livin’ on a Prayer” when I don’t even know the words?’” he said.
“A lot of people might think I’m comfortable on stage,” William said. “When I give speeches and things like that, I’ve done so many that it’s not a problem, but I haven’t stopped singing.”
