Kristin Chenoweth was one of the most prominent celebrities to comment on the murder of Charlie Kirk.

After the right-wing activist was shot and killed at a college appearance in September, Chenoweth wrote in the comments of one of Kirk’s Instagram posts that she was “very upset” by his death.

“I didn’t always agree, but I appreciated some perspectives. How heartbreaking,” he wrote at the time. “His young family. I know where it is now. Heaven. But still.”

Now, the Broadway legend — and prominent LGBTQ+ rights advocate — is opening up about the intense backlash she faced after her comments angered her legions of fans.

“It was hard for me, but I’m not going to answer any questions about it because I’m over it,” Chenoweth said in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, published Monday.

“That almost broke me, and that’s all I’m going to say,” he added. “You probably know my heart, so you probably know.”

The “Wicked” star previously acknowledged the hurt and confusion his comments caused in an interview with NY1 in September.

“I saw what happened online with my own eyes. And I had a human moment of reflection,” Chenoweth said at the time. “At that moment I realized that my comment hurt some people and that hurt me.”

“It is no secret that I have been, that I am a Christian, that I am a person of faith,” she added. “It’s also no secret that I’m an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, and for some, that doesn’t go together. But for me it always has. And always will be.”
