Lane Kiffin wasn’t allowed to coach Ole Miss in the College Football Playoffs after leaving the team for LSU, but he was sure he was in tune with his old team.

One reason may have been that he could earn bonuses for each Rebels playoff win this year, something his new school, LSU, is honoring.

In any case, the Rebels’ first playoff run ended in heartbreak Thursday with a 31-27 loss to No. 10 Miami.

There’s no love lost for Kiffin among Rebels fans, or even their players, but Kiffin still seems to have a soft spot for the football program.

“Incredible effort and courage @OleMissFB (crying emoji). Best season in Ole Miss history!! Love you guys,” Kiffin posted on X after the game.

INDIANA COACH CURT CIGNETTI WANTED 1 THING AFTER HISTORIC WIN OVER OREGON

After Carson Beck ran for a score with 18 seconds left, Ole Miss had one last miraculous effort when Trinidad Chambliss launched a deep ball into the end zone. It fell incomplete, but there was speculation about whether a defensive pass interference call should have been called.

Kiffin was waiting for a flag.

“Pass interference 100!!!” Kiffin wrote.

The Rebels found themselves in coaching limbo during the playoffs as many assistants followed Kiffin to Baton Rouge. However, even though Ole Miss did not allow Kiffin to finish coaching, LSU allowed assistants, including offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr., to coach games and travel back and forth from Ole Miss to LSU.
