Laura Dahlmeier, twice a German Biatlon Olympic gold medalist, died after a climbing accident in Pakistan, confirmed his management team and local government officials.

The 31 -year -old, who also won seven World Biatlon championships, Laila Peak rose on Monday at the Karakoram mountain range when she was beaten by rock fall to about 18,700 feet. His rope partner, Marina Eva, quickly issued a relief call, launching a mass rescue mission, said his management team. Eva, without hurting, was able to descend to the base camp with the help of rescuers on Tuesday.

The rescue operation was hindered by low visibility and bad weather.

Rescuers were able to confirm Dahlmeier’s death on Wednesday, but not recovering the body due to the unfavorable climate, said Faizullah Faraq, spokesman for the regional government of Gilgit-Baltistan.

“According to the high passage of the helicopter passage and the story of the string partner of the seriousness of the injuries, it should be assumed that Laura Dahlmeier died instantly,” said his management team in a statement to the German media. A similar statement was shared in Dahlmeier’s Instagram account.

A separate publication on Instagram honored Dahlmeier as a “wonderful person” who “enriched the lives of many, including ours, with its warm and direct way.”

“She showed us that it is worth defending your dreams and objectives and always staying faithful to yourself,” the publication continued. “We are deeply grateful, dear Laura, which we were allowed to share our lives with you. Our moments and memories shared give us strength and courage to continue on our way.”

Any final decision on the recovery of the body would follow the wishes of Dahlmeier’s family, Faraq said. A statement on the Instagram page of Dalhmeier said it had been his desire that no one risk his life to recover his body after an accident. He said that Dahlmeier’s family thanked the rescue team and climbers, who did everything possible to make their rescue possible.

The German president, Frank-Walter, Steinmeier, offered his condolences to Dahlmeier’s parents, writing that she “was an exceptional athlete.” He recalled that he presented the greatest honor in German sport, the silver bay leaf, shortly after she won her first Olympic gold medal in 2018.

“Laura Dahlmeier was an ambassador of our country in the world, a model to follow for peaceful, cheerful and fair coexistence through borders,” he said.

Dahlmeier made his professional debut in the IBU World Cup during the 2012-13 season at age 19. She was chosen to represent the Germany team in Sochi 2014, where she held the 13th position in the individual, according to Olympics.com.

Then he won two Olympic gold medals at the Pyeongchang Games in 2018, becoming the first female biathlete in history to win sprint events and persecution in the same Olympic Games. He also picked up a bronze in the individual in those games.

Dahlmeier won seven gold, three silver and five bronze medals in the World Biatlon Championship, along with 20 World Cup and World Cup races in the 2016-17 season, according to its website.

Dahlmeier retired from competitive biathlon in May 2019 at age 25. He grew up in Garmisch-Partenkironn in the German Alps and turned to the challenges of mountaineering after finishing his biathlon career. It had been a mountain and ski guide certified by the state since 2023 and was offered as a volunteer for the Garmisch-Partenkirchen mountain rescue equipment.

Hundreds of climbers try to climb mountains in northern Pakistan every year and accidents are common due to avalanches and changes in the sudden weather, according to News.

The region has also been mistreated by seasonal rains above normal, triggering sudden floods and landslides. Since last week, at least 20 Pakistani tourists have disappeared after the waters of the floods swept them near the northern district of Chilas.
