Dispersed strong storms, Canadian forest fire smoke that will arrive for Chicago on Friday
The smoke of Canada’s forest fire is expected to move over the United States, impacting air quality for millions of people on Friday and this weekend. Maps and satellite images show the large -scale impact of the fires.
More than 90 fires of 174 active fires burned “out of control” in Canada as of Thursday, according to the Canadian Integential Forest Firefighters Center, forcing thousands of people to flee their homes.
It declared an emergency state in the province of Saskatchewan, where more than a dozen fires are furious. Earlier this week, 17,000 people were told of fires in Manitoba, a neighboring province that limits with North Dakota and Minnesota.
Thursday’s satellite images showed a massive smoke plume that covers 3,000 miles from Montana to the Atlantic.

Air quality alerts cover parts of the upper west, including areas on the upper Peninsula of Michigan and northern Minnesota, as well as all Wisconsin, reports The Weather Channel.
Air quality is expected to be “unhealthy for sensitive groups” on Friday in cities that cover from Madison, Wisconsin, to Duluth, Minnesotaaccording to the Federal Airnow site. It is forecast that air quality will be “moderate” in cities, including ChicagoMinneapolis, St. Louis, Cincinnati and Detroit.
On Saturday, air quality is expected to get worse in parts of Minnesota, where it is forecast to be “unhealthy,” said Airnow.

The Canadian smoke of forest fires led to air quality problems throughout the United States in 2023when hundreds of fires were furious. Drought and recorded heat contributed to those fires, which in May and June of that year created a record level of emissions.
