Mariska Hargitay says that his family is a miracle
Mariska Hargitay continues to feel relief to be able to face a long -standing family secret in its own terms.
Hargitay, 61, is making his debut as director with “My Mom Jayne”, a documentary about his late mother, the legend of the Jayne Mansfield screen, which premieres on Friday at HBO. In the film, he reveals that musician Nelson Sardelli is his biological father, although he was raised by bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay, whom he saw as his father.
The actor “Law & Order: Svu” last month shared how he made the discovery, telling Vanity Fair that he began to reach an agreement with “knowing” that he had been “living a lie all my life” at the time I was 30 years old. Speaking with weekly entertainment in a new interview this week, he said he feared that the news became Fodder Public Fodder before the launch of “My Mom Jayne.”

“I was so afraid to have to face it before being ready,” he told The Outlet. “Thank God, he never went anywhere. It has been a real gift for me to be able to say it in my time when I was ready.”
Mansfield, whose popularity rivaled Marilyn Monroe during her life, married Mickey Hargitay from 1958 to 1964. She and Sardelli had a brief adventure in the early 1960s.
In “My Mom Jayne,” Hargitay says he began to suspect that Mickey Hargitay was not his 20 -year -old father. However, upon learning that Sardelli was his father, he decided to keep the truth secret by loyalty to Mickey Hargitay, who raised her as his after Mansfield’s death in 1967 and referred to her as her daughter until her own death in 2006.

The truth about Hargitay’s paternity was publicly revealed for the first time in “Here they the are, Jayne Mansfield”, a 1992 biography written by former Mansfield press agent, Raymond Strait. Surprisingly, the revelation remained a large extent at the time of publication of the book.
“The fact is that the story was in many places,” Hargitay told EW. “And so, the fact that it never left is nothing less than a miracle, really.”

When describing “my mother Jayne” as a “curative experience” for her and her brothers, Hargitay said she learned to embrace her unusual family structure.
“Nothing could change my love, respect, admiration and gratitude for [Mickey Hargitay]”, Said.” And when I met Nelson, while he explained to me what happened, he became a much more three -dimensional story. I realized that everyone is doing their best. It was no longer so black and white for me. “
