Marjorie Taylor Greene responds to Trump over Epstein files:
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) on Friday criticized President Donald Trump for saying that any Republican who supports the release of documents about Jeffrey Epstein, the late sex offender who once called him his “closest friend,” is “stupid.”
Greene responded in a “News Mornings” interview, noting that her concern is for “the victims.”
“These women have been waiting, some for decades,” she said. “I spoke to several victims who were raped by Jeffrey Epstein in the ’90s, so this is information that has needed to come to light for a long time, and the American people have demanded it.”
Greene was one of four House Republicans who supported a discharge petition from Democrats on the House Oversight Committee to force a vote on the release of documents about Epstein. Trump called those Republicans “very bad” earlier in the week.
During Friday’s interview, Greene said that “the American people deserve to see transparency from their government” and that “the rich and powerful should not be protected.” He added that his stance is “a message” to all children, victims of rape and human trafficking that the government supports them.
“News Mornings” host Tony Dokoupil asked why Trump is “so opposed” to transparency, noting that even the Wall Street Journal’s conservative editorial board said it appears he “has something to hide.”
Greene responded: “I’ve talked to a lot of the women, and the women themselves have said that Donald Trump didn’t do anything wrong. And even their lawyer said…Trump was the only one who helped them. So I’ll be very honest with you, it’s something I don’t understand.”
One of the victims, who voted for Trump, said his dismissal of the case “is beyond my reach.”
Greene on Friday called the president’s position “a huge miscalculation,” prompting Dokoupil to note that his “absence of a compelling reason” to block release of the files has led people to “jump to conclusions” about his knowledge or involvement in the crimes.

He then highlighted one of the newly released emails making headlines.
“It’s from Jeffrey Epstein in 2011, and it says, ‘The dog that hasn’t barked is Trump,’” Dokoupil said. “The email continues from there. We don’t understand the context. What do you think of this?”
Greene said unfortunately we can’t ask Epstein, since he died in his prison cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.
Dokoupil then asked if Greene believes Trump has “something to hide.” Greene reiterated her belief in the victims she spoke to, who said Trump did not abuse them.
“Even Virginia Giuffre said it under oath and wrote it in her book,” Greene said. “And if we listen to women, they will say that Donald Trump has done nothing wrong.”
Giuffrea vocal Epstein accuser, died earlier this year. of an apparent suicide. Epstein’s convicted accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell has since been transferred to a comfortable prison after echoing the notion of Trump’s innocence.

Giuffre’s family urged Trump in July not to pardon Maxwell, who has openly been seeking immunity, asking if he is aware of her crimes with Epstein, “especially given his statement… that his good friend Jeffrey ‘likes younger women… without a doubt.'”
Trump reportedly told New York Magazine the same thing in 2002.
