Mark Hamill attempts a fame test on Kimmel and his brutality
Mark Hamill is famous all over the world, but apparently not on Hollywood Boulevard.
The “Star Wars” actor recently agreed to a rather humiliating experiment for “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” to determine how long it would take for him to be recognized in public. Hamill tried to make it easy for him by wearing his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Kimmel noted in his introduction Wednesday that countless tourists annually visit Los Angeles in hopes of meeting a celebrity, and he applauded Hamill for trying to make that dream a reality. However, the segment did not go as planned and the results were quite shocking.
“Look who it is!” Hamill said as he approached his star. “My God, it’s Mark Hamill’s star.”
Hamill asked a passerby if he could take a photo of him next to the star, and as he held a glossy copy of his own photo to his head and cheekily told the stranger that he’s “a big fan of this guy,” the man still couldn’t put two and two together.
“He played Laurie’s boyfriend on ‘The Partridge Family,’” Hamill accurately joked.
When he asked three women passing by if they could take his photo, they briefly considered it but simply walked away. A man then kindly approached Hamill and offered to do him a favor, only to have Hamill snatch his disposable camera.
“Wait,” she said as she shamelessly played with him. “You have to wind it up.”
The magnanimous stranger was then forced to hilariously watch for what seemed like an eternity as Hamill prepared the device. With no idea of his identity, the man eventually took a photo of Hamill, who sat in front of his star in a cross-legged yoga pose.
“Have you ever heard of him?” Hamill later asked another group of tourists. “Brand Hamlin?”
The man on the street segment took a morbid turn when he stopped two others, pointed to his star and said, “Did you hear this guy died today? I read on the Internet that he was in a jet ski accident.” Hamill then dropped a bouquet of flowers on the ground.
“It’s really sad,” he said. “I was in ‘Corvette Summer,’” he said.

When one of the men noted that he was also in “Star Wars,” Hamill said he had “heard about it” but never saw the movie. The men then checked their phones and confirmed that Hamill was still alive, telling him: “You can’t always believe the Internet. There’s a lot of fake news.”
Later, Hamill shouted to the sky: “What does it take to be recognized around here?!”
One woman finally did, only for the actor to claim that he is “really not” who she thinks he is. Nevertheless, Hamill agreed to take a selfie with her and, perhaps funniest of all, told a local figure dressed as Darth Vader: “Dad! I told you, don’t follow me to work!”
