A 2 -year -old British child has become the youngest member of Mensa, the exclusive club that only welcomes people with a IQ of 132 or higheraccording to Guinness World Records. Joseph Harris-Birtill, born on November 23, 2021, was admitted to the organization at the age of only 2 years and 182 days.

“It was soon clear that it was a small exceptional being,” said Harris-Birtill’s mother, Rose, Guinness World Records. “First he turned around five weeks, said his first word at seven months and read his first book aloud from the cover on the cover in a year and three years.”

“He is learning the Morse Code, he knows the Greek alphabet and has recently been interested in the periodic table,” said his mother. “His interests are vast and varied, and he is always anxious to learn more and loves a challenge.”

Harris-Birtill’s parents, who work at the prestigious University of St. Andrews in Scotland, told Guinness World Records that they decided to communicate first with Mensa to find more support for Joseph after seeing how early he had begun to read.

“I looked online any additional support available and I saw that Mensa offers resources and membership for highly capable children,” Rose said. “We hope that this achievement can give it a feeling of pride when it is greater, it is a very unusual praise and credit is theirs!”

Harris-Birtill is 13 days younger than the youngest female member of Mensa, the American McNabb Island, when she was admitted to the club in 2022. He has also taken the title of the youngest member of Mensa of Great Britain Teddy Hobbs who achieved that range at the age of 4 in 2023.

Rose, Harris-Birtill’s mother, said she hoped that sharing her son’s story helped to raise awareness about the unique needs of children as her son.

“It is a common erroneous idea that everything is very easy for talented children. But all need appropriate stimulation and understanding throughout their lives, and highly capable students can unfortunately have their unique talent that pressure adapts to environments that simply have not been adequately designed for them,” he told Guinness World Records. “Joseph is fortunate to attend a brilliant nursery and has an excellent music teacher, and in Mensa we hope to provide a community of classmates as a source of greater support as its formidable intellect continues to grow and develop.”
