Seven inmates died amid disturbances in a prison in the State of Eastern Mexico of Veracruzthe authorities said Sunday, with another 11 prisoners suffering from injuries.

Local media reported that the prisoners began the riots after asking the authorities to guarantee their safety when they face the threats of prisoners accused of being part of a violent criminal group called Shadow.
