Hurricane Erick touches land in Mexico
Residents and authorities in southern Mexico are evaluating the damage and observing the ascending rivers as a rain of the remains of Hurricane Erick sprayed the region.
Earth landslides and floods were a continuous concern for officials after Erick, once a Category 4 hurricane – Disipped after land early Thursday.
At least two deaths have been confirmed: a 1 -year -old boy who drowned in a swollen river in the state of Guerrero and a man was electrocuted while helping the elimination of rubble in the state of Oaxaca, authorities said.

Erick arrived at the ground on the Pacific coast of southern Mexico on Thursday morning as a great hurricane of category 3. He landed among the tourist cities of Acapulco and Puerto Escondido.
Erick had strengthened in a category 4 storm when he approached the coast, but weakened a category 3 storm before throwing land.
Having doubled the force in less than a day, Erick stirred through an ideal environment for rapid intensification. Last year, there were 34 rapid intensification incidents, when a storm wins at least 55 kph (35 mph) in 24 hours, which is approximately twice the average and causes problems with the prognosis, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
The authorities reported landslides, blocked roads, fallen electric lines and some floods such as coastal residents, especially in Acapulco, took the storm seriously with memories of the devastating. Restaurants, stores and supermarkets gradually reopen in Acapulco, but schools remained closed throughout Guerrero on Friday while the authorities continued to evaluate damage, eliminate debris and monitor rivers ascent.
“Many of us were scared, but now it has happened,” said Juan Carlos Castañeda, a 49 -year security guard in a complex of Acapulco condominiums. He said the “Otis tragedy marked us all.”
Despite the rain, Castañeda decided to walk.

At the end of the coast, in the fishing village of Barra Vieja, the surfing with wind shake hit the shore and the heavy rains kept the protected residents inside.
Pearl Rosas, however, was one of the few who ventured, umbrella in his hand, to get to his work in a convenience store.
“I feel more relaxed now, so I decided to come to work.”
Erick is the first great hurricane of the Eastern Pacific Hurricanes season, which extends from May 15 to November 30. Atlantic hurricanes season From June 1 to November 30.
