The plane involved was an Airbus A319 operated by the low cost airline Volotea, for a flight from Bergamo to Asturias, in northern Spain. According to the reports, the incident occurred shortly after the plane completed the ship and was rolling away from the terminal.

According to Ansa, it is believed that the victim entered the track with the intention of taking his life. The man, who was not a passenger or an airport employee, eluded security personnel and ran to the plane when he was already moving.

The authorities have not published the identity of the person.
