A new Fitness madness is once again sweeping social networks, although the practice borrows from military training methods tested over time, and experts urge caution before binding.
In social networks, influencers are promoting weighted vests as one of the “best saved secrets” in physical condition, claiming that they can help you lose 30 pounds and become “unrecognizable” when used during walks and training. Tiktok searches for #Weightvest have obtained more than 30 million visits.
But the vests are far from new, according to Dr. Mark Kovacs, a sports scientist and longevity expert with headquarters in Atlanta.
“They have been used for decades in sports and military training, but social networks have helped reintroduce them to conventional aptitude,” Digital News told News.

“The attractiveness is simple: it becomes a little more demanding training every day without changing the movement,” Kovacs said.
While soldiers have marched with heavy backpacks for more than a century, a practice known as rucking, to build resistance and hardness, weighted vests have also been used for a long time by athletes and firefighters. However, experts warn that more research is needed to completely understand the benefits of weighted vests.
While studies show that weighted vests can increase calorie burn, cardiovascular demand and even help with certain strength exercises such as squatillas, science remains not completed for long -term results, such as bone density. A recent study found that obese adults who wore weighted vests lost about 10% of their body weight, but did not see a reduction in the loss of hip bone.

Women at this stage of life can benefit more from the trend, Kovacs said, while people with joint or back problems should be cautious and consult a medical professional before starting.

For people interested in trying weighted walks or walks, experts recommend starting with the lighter option available: about 5 to 10 pounds, or less than 10% of their body weight, and choose a vest with uniformly distributed weight and adjustable straps.
