Netflix finally gets his first victory at the box office
Los Angeles (AP) -Netflix seems to have its first box office number 1 in the 18-year history of the transmission company thanks to the feeling of “Kpop Demon Hunters”.
Rival Studios estimated on Sunday “Kpop Demon Hunters” led all films during the weekend with $ 16-18 million for ticket sales.
The distribution executives of three studies shared their estimates for the Netflix phenomenon on anonymity because the transmission company has the policy of not informing ticket sales.
After a few more dominant weeks as one of the most popular Netflix launches in history, the streamer put the film in 1,750 singing rooms for singing projections on Saturday and Sunday.
Studies can accurately estimate the sale of tickets for all launches on Sunday morning, although the rare nature of “Kpop demon hunters” launches means a broader variation. Some estimates were as high as $ 20 million.

He attended a return of the victory for “Kpop Demon Hunters”, possibly the greatest success of Hollywood’s summer, and an ironic success for Netflix, whose emphasis on transmission, not the theater launch, changed the film industry.
Another painful place for Hollywood: the film was developed and produced by Sony Pictures, which sold it to Netflix.
Not all exhibitors came. AMC, the largest theater chain in North America, refused to show the film. But that did not prevent Netflix from claiming that the box office title is usually the owner of the most traditional competitors.
David A. Gross, who runs the Frenchere films consulting firm, described it as “a completely unique musical event of two days.”
“It may be higher,” Gross said. “Theater owners are fast and can add capacity according to the demand.”
The theatrical launch, although limited, is out of the ordinary for the transmission giant, which has long emphasized a commitment to subscriber releases. The film debuted on the platform at the end of June and is currently the most watched animated film in Netflix.
The film focuses on Gift/X, a trio of kpop superstars that doubles as demons hunters. The members, Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong) and Zooey (Ji-Young Yoo), must protect their fans and face their biggest enemy so far: a band of rival children compensated for disguised demons.
Zach Cregger’s horror “Armas” kept strength at the box office during his third weekend, bringing $ 15.6 million nationwide. The Buzzy horror film has demonstrated its power of permanence, raising more than $ 100 million worldwide since its launch.
Disney’s “Freakier Friday” landed behind the horror movie once again, winning $ 9.2 million in American theaters.
The two films are “bright real points”, since the box office is aimed at a “quite quiet end” for the summer, said Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst of the Comscore data firm. Both films, which premiered simultaneously earlier this month, had a minimum fall of 36% since last weekend.
“I think we have to observe the currency of the good will generated by the people who have these great summer experiences in the cinema,” said Dergarabedian. “We have to see that as a more important metric than only dollars and cents.”
“The Fantastic Four: First Steps” won $ 5.9 million nationwide during his fifth weekend. The film enjoyed a strong debut of $ 118 million, but has experienced a constant decrease.
Newcomer “Honey, no!” He opened in 1,317 American theaters with a gross estimate of $ 3 million weekend, in line with expectations. The film reached Top 10, just above “The Naked Gun”.
The dark comedy is starring Margaret Qualley as Honey O’Donahue, a private researcher of a town that investigates a series of strange deaths linked to a church in Bakersfield, California.
