On Mondays, The Guardian published a correction. to his already scathing review of the first lady Melania TrumpThe new document backed by Amazon, and it’s pretty humiliating.
“The star rating for this film was corrected on February 2, 2026,” the correction begins. “A formatting issue caused an earlier version to receive one star, when the reviewer’s intent was zero.”
Although most critics have criticized the film directed by Brett Ratner – who was accused in 2017 of sexual harassment or misconduct by at least six women: Guardian contributor Xan Brooks’ review is particularly brutal.
In the review, which was originally published Friday, Brooks seems to have a lot of fun comparing Trump to some unflattering figures like the child-eating witch from “Hansel and Gretel” and Adolf Hitler’s longtime girlfriend and brief wife, Eva Braun.

“You can certainly make a great documentary about Melania Knauss,” Brooks wrote. “The ambitious Slovenian model who married a New York real estate mogul and then found herself cast in the role of a modern-day Eva Braun, but the horrible ‘Melania’ is emphatically not it.”
He added: “It’s one of those rare unicorn movies that doesn’t have a single redeeming quality.”
Brooks goes on to note that the first lady’s biggest conflict in the documentary “revolves primarily around her concern that her white blouse is too baggy in the neck and needs to be cut.”

He describes the president as more of a background character in the film who occasionally appears to brag about himself or to complain that his second presidential inauguration might be overshadowed by “televised college football playoffs.”
“Two hours of ‘Melania’ seems like pure, endless hell,” Brooks concluded his review.
Despite mostly poor reviews, the film managed to gross $7 million in its opening weekend, according to The New York Timeswith the outlet noting that it’s actually “the best start to a documentary (excluding concert films) in 14 years.”
But considering that Amazon reportedly spent a staggering $75 million to buy the distribution rights to “Melania” and market its release to 1,778 domestic theaters, it seems that any profits this film generates are probably not be the best.
