NiH’s superior scientist who studies ultraprocess foods resignation, says he is being censored
The main expert of the National Institutes of Health in Ultraprocessed Food resigned on Wednesday, saying in a public letter that was doing it after NIH leaders censored the findings of a study that did not support their own preconceived narratives.
“After 21 years in the work of my dreams, I am sad to announce my early retirement of the National Health Institutes,” wrote Dr. Kevin Hall in a letter published on social networks.
“Unfortunately, recent events have made me wonder if NiH is still a place where I can freely carry out impartial science.”
Hall said he was initially optimistic that the new leadership in the agency, now under the control of Secretary of Health Robert Kennedy Jr., would prioritize research on ultra -processed food and how its consumption affects our health.
Kennedy has long defamed ultraprocessed foods, blaming them for a wide variety of physical and mental health problems, from diabetes to various types of cancer and autoimmune disorders.
But when a new study, the largest of its type of suggested ultraprocessed foods are not as addictive as addictive drugs, or at least they are not addictive in the same way, Hall says that the best assistants for Kennedy prevented him from publicly discussing it.
Hall was co -author of the study, which was published on March 4 in Cell Metabolism, to Science Journal.
He told News that he was blocked to present the investigation at a conference and that he was instructed to accept official editions in a manuscript or retired as co -author.

Hall also said that the Department of Health and Human Services prevented him from participating in an interview with the New York Times to discuss the findings. He said that when he offered written answers to the journalist’s questions, his answers were edited and presented without approval.
The HHS denied that statement in a statement sent by email and said that the agency remains “committed to promoting standard research and advancing in public health priorities.”
“It is disappointing that this individual is manufacturing false statements,” said an HHS spokesman for News themezone. “NIH scientists continue to interview their research through written responses or other media.”
Hall responded by writing a letter to Kennedy and the director of NiH incoming, Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, about the alleged censorship, pointing at the same time that the non -anticipated financing freezing of the Trump administration prevented researchers from obtaining basic research supplies or even buying food for study participants.
The letter was unanswered, which led to Hall’s resignation on Wednesday.
“Without tranquility, censorship or interference in our research would not continue, I felt forced to accept early retirement to preserve health insurance for my family,” he said, expressing the hope of returning to the government service one day.

“The NIH has been a wonderful place because it allows scientists to take risks, train unique collaborations and do difficult studies to do in another place. I am proud of what we have achieved and I am lucky to have had colleagues and such wonderful scientific collaborators.”
