NKOTB’s Joey McIntyre Becomes a ’50s Singer for the Holidays:

As he prepares for a historic year in music, Joey McIntyre will spend the final weeks of 2025 on a festive journey through Christmases past.

On Thursday, the New Kids on the Block singer began a month-long stint as host of “Tinselcolor: Holiday Soundtracks Live” at CineVita in Los Angeles. The show, which runs through Dec. 30, finds McIntyre embracing the throwback vibes of Frank Sinatra and other singers from the ’50s and ’60s while performing songs from “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “Home Alone” and “Love Actually,” among other holiday classics.

“You grow up playing dress-up, hoping to go to a Christmas party, and we get to do it five or six times a week in an amazing place — it’s a dream,” she told News in an interview. “It’s a Broadway-caliber production and a fantasy come true; I haven’t seen anything like it, and it’s a big sandbox.”

It’s shaping up to be a busy December for McIntyre, who also returns to the small screen this week in the new Roku movie, “Jingle Bell Wedding.” He had initially been looking forward to a quiet holiday season with his wife, Barrett Williams, and three children after NKOTB wrapped up the first leg of their lively Las Vegas residency, “The Right Stuff,” last month.

But when the live production company For the Record asked him to participate in “Tinselcolor” at CineVita, known worldwide as the largest in the world. mirror storeor tent, couldn’t resist the opportunity.

And while McIntyre is no stranger to teamwork on stage, he found learning to harmonize with a cast of 22 performers and musicians that includes Cheyenne Isabel Wells and “America’s Got Talent” alum Brian Justin Crum to be a unique challenge.

“Everyone brings their brilliance to the experience and I’m confident with what I bring,” he said. “But there’s nothing vulgar about performing any of these songs. So my task is to learn some intricate harmonies. It’s fun to up my game.”

McIntyre doesn’t count, but 2026 will mark his 40th year as a recording artist, as NKOTB released his self-titled debut album in 1986. These days, he’s as busy as ever, having co-written many of the songs on NKOTB’s most recent album, 2024’s “Still Kids.” Last month, it was announced that he and his NKOTB bandmates Jonathan Knight, Jordan Knight, Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood, would extend their Las Vegas residency by adding 24 shows, which will take place between February and October of next year.

“It’s like a marriage, you know what I mean? You want to keep it fresh,” McIntyre said of NKOTB’s relationship with its fans, some of whom now bring their own children to shows. “We’re lucky at this point in our careers, there’s still new territory. And Las Vegas is the perfect place.”

And after working on the Broadway musicals “Wicked” and “Waitress,” he’s also been delving into live theater. Last year, he returned to the New York stage in “Drag: The Musical,” in which he played the estranged brother of a down-on-his-luck drag queen, Alexis Gilmore (played by Broadway’s Nick Adams).

He also hopes to star in a full production of Michele Aldin Kushner’s drama “Radio Galaxy” after participating in readings of the play in New York. He will play the working-class New Jersey father of a teenage science prodigy who finds himself at an emotional crossroads when a secret involving his family is revealed.

“When you’re a theater kid, you’re a theater kid, it’s that simple. I like to say I’m more aligned with the theater gods,” McIntyre said. “I like being in the theater because I have a completely different audience that hasn’t seen me as a performer. I’m kind of a journeyman in this business and I’ve been lucky that the right things have come along at the right time.”
