Below are four A-list stars who shared their weight loss journeys this year, with or without the help of prescription medications.

No. 1: Oprah Winfrey

Winfrey, 71, started taking a GLP-1 drug in 2023, but tried to stop just six months later to see if she could lose weight without it. Regardless of her diet and exercise routines, the media mogul said she still gained 20 pounds after stopping the medication.

“It’s going to be something that will last a lifetime,” he shared. “I’m on high blood pressure medication, and if I stop, my blood pressure will go up. I realize the same thing is happening now with these medications. I’ve proven it to myself. [that] I need it.”

Winfrey revealed that her default weight, 211 pounds, was unhealthy, as she was prediabetic and had high cholesterol.

Regardless of access or tolerance to GLP-1, Winfrey encouraged those struggling with obesity to say “it’s not your fault.”

“I want people to stop blaming [themselves] for genes and the environment [they] “I can’t control,” he said. “I want people to have the information, regardless of what they choose to do with it, whether they take the medications or whether they want to continue dieting.”

No. 2: Amy Schumer

“Watching her transform from the inside out has been one of the most meaningful parts of my job,” the caption reads. “She did a lot of this on her own before introducing a GLP-1, and even after starting, the medication was simply a support, not the reason for her results. GLP-1s may be a powerful tool, but they are certainly not a transformational plan. SHE is the reason this worked.”

No. 4: Lizzo

The singer and musician Lizzo stood out this year with a slimmer figure, while the public speculated about her use of GLP-1.

During a discussion about Ozempic on Trisha Paytas’ “Just Trish” podcast in June, the musician shared that he had “tried everything” to lose weight.
