The star of Dallas Wings Rising, Paige Bueckers, organized one of the best performances of a WNBA rookie in history, but was a veteran of Los Angeles Sparks who spoiled the show.
Bueckers, the former highlight of the UConn Huskies who was the general selection number 1 of the 2025 WNBA Draft, scored 44 points in the defeat 81-80 of the Wings against the Sparks. It was the greatest number of points in a single rookie game in the history of the WNBA and most of the points of any player this season.

He had 17 of 21 of the field and made all his four attempts of 3 points. He added four rebounds and three assists.
Cynthia Cooper, from the Houston’s comets, scored 44 points in the opening season of the League in 1997. All players were considered in their “first year” at that time. The Legend of Sparks Candace Parker scored 40 points in 2008 and was the head of the true rookie record.
“I have always proud of me and the team to win, so that is obviously the main objective,” he said. “Honestly, I think I am very proud of this team, as, the way we fight. This team only means a lot to me.”

Bueckers is 60 points out of Arike Ogunbowale for most points in a single season for a rookie. She scored 630 points in 2019.
The wings would have liked to get the victory. Bueckers scored the final 13 points of the Wings. But it was the star of the Sparks, Kelsey Plum, who obtained the last word.

Plum had 20 points in the victory. Ricka Jackson led the Sparks with 25 points, including six triples.
