Attorney General Pam Bondi demanded Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) comply with three orders to “restore the rule of law” in a letter sent Saturday after federal agents killed a Minneapolis man.

Declaring the discord in Minnesota a “national tragedy,” Bondi accused Walz, along with other local and state leaders, of failing to “support the men and women who risk their lives to protect Americans” and of fomenting unrest in the North Star State.

According to Bondi, the widespread protests against immigration operations were not a response to its aggressive deportation tactics, use of force against protesters and the deaths of two civilians at the hands of federal agents, but rather to the state’s policies and the “anti-law enforcement rhetoric” of its leaders.

And therefore, it was Walz’s responsibility to give in to their demands.

“You and your office must restore the rule of law, support ICE agents, and end the chaos in Minnesota,” Bondi wrote in the letter, published by The New York Times and other outlets. “Fortunately, there are common sense solutions to these problems that I hope we can achieve together.”

To stop the crisis, Bondi ordered Walz to repeal Minnesota’s “sanctuary policies” for immigrants and share information about its welfare programs, which have been under scrutiny for alleged fraud at government-supported child care centers and millions of dollars in funds stolen through a food aid program dating back to the pandemic.

It also requested access to the state’s voter registration records “to confirm that Minnesota’s voter registration practices comply with federal law.”

“I am confident that these simple steps will help restore law and order in Minnesota and improve the lives of Americans,” she added.

Bondi’s scathing letter to Walz was sent the same day immigration agents shot and killed 37-year-old ICU nurse Alex Pretti.

While White House and Department of Homeland Security officials claim Pretti had brandished a weapon at authorities, multiple video recordings and witness accounts of the incident contradict the government’s narrative.
