Pam Bondi, Doug Burgum Visit Alcatraz to promote prison
The Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Secretary of the Interior, Doug Burgum, arrived on Thursday morning in Alcatraz, the tourist attraction of San Francisco that President Donald Trump has promised to reopen as a prison in one of the most crazy performative schemes of his second mandate.
Bondi and Burgum published photos of the visit on social networks, with Burgum saying that the visit was made to “start work to renew and reopen the site to house more dangerous criminals and illegal”, which suggests that the site could be used to detain the rounded immigrants in immigrations and customs attacks.
His visit triggered the Democrats, with the statement of the speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (California) reaching the grain.
“[T]He planned the announcement to reopen Alcatraz as a federal penitentiary is the most stupid initiative of the Trump administration so far. We should worry everyone that clearly the only intellectual resources that the administration has resorted to this silly notion are Hollywood fiction of decades, ”he said.
It has been speculated that Trump’s unlikely idea to reopen Alcatraz was the product of his well -known television observation habit. Only a few hours before Trump presented the idea in May in a social publication of the truth of the head, a PBS affiliate that serves Mar-a-Lago issued the 1979 film by Clint Eastwood “Escape from Alcatraz”, found The Hollywood Reporter.
“It remains to be seen how this administration could afford to spend billions to convert and keep Alcatraz as a prison when they are already adding billion dollars to the national debt with their sinful law,” Pelosi continued, referring to Trump’s “great beautiful bill.”

California State Senator Scott Wiener (D), whose district includes San Francisco, said Thursday that although the idea of reopening Alcatraz as a prison is “absurd at many levels”, people should not cancel the possibility that Trump continues with the idea with or without guaranteeing that it is a safe center.
“Trump has shown that he executes many of the crazy and destructive things that leave his deformed brain,” Wiener wrote in a statement. “I am very worried that Trump really tries to turn Alcatraz into a gulag to keep the political prisoners that the ice is sweeping the streets. We need to do everything in our power to fight against this dangerous idea.”
The idea of reopening Alcatraz as a prison is ridiculous for many who have visited the facilities, an extremely popular tourist destination on an island in the San Francisco Bay that welcomes more than one million visitors every year. Alcatraz, which is now part of the national parks service, does not contain any of the security characteristics of a modern detention center and only operated as a federal prison for less than 30 years before closing in 1963 due to the high operating costs of directing a prison on an island.
“This isolation meant that everything (food, supplies, water, fuel …) had to be taken to Alcatraz by boat,” says the Federal Prison Office in its history of the former prison. “For example, the island did not have a fresh water source, so almost a million gallons of water had to be excited to the island every week. The federal government discovered that it was more profitable to build a new institution than to keep Alcatraz open.”

Alcatraz, said the office, was almost three times more expensive to operate than any other federal prison.
Bondi’s visit occurs while he continues to get heat for the announcement of the Department of Justice that he would not release more files in the case of Jeffrey Epstein, sending the promises of the Trump campaign after promoting his release.
