Penn Badgley opened up about how he and his wife almost split up after her second miscarriage

In 2020, Penn Badgley’s wife, singer Domino Kirke, spoke about experiencing “two miscarriages in a row” before becoming pregnant with their first child together.

Domino, who has been married to Penn since 2017, has a 16-year-old son named Cassius from a previous relationship.

Announcing that she was pregnant with her second (and first) child (and Penn’s first), Domino, who is a doula, wrote on Instagram: “On the road again…pregnancy after loss is [a] another thing. After two miscarriages in a row we were ready to call it quits. I stopped trusting my body and started accepting the fact that it was over. As a midwife, I have seen and heard it all. It takes everything I have to lovingly detach from the losses I have been present for and be in my own experience.”

Now, Penn, who welcomed identical twins with Domino earlier this year, has spoken in more detail about how the back-to-back miscarriages affected their relationship.

Sharing an excerpt from Penn’s writing, Zibby read: “This was our second loss together, a time when I didn’t feel like the cycle was going to be broken. My wife and I were on the verge of separating, as many do after losses like that, in large part because we felt so isolated in a culture that doesn’t talk much about these things or know how to support those who are going through it.”

“Seeing our baby still on those black and white sonography images is a terrible memory that I can’t get rid of every time we have an ultrasound,” she read.

Clarifying that he wrote this “before the twins were born,” Penn further talked about how difficult the miscarriages were for both him and Domino. “Especially for us, I had no biological children at the time, my wife had her firstborn… That was a real turning point,” he said.
