Michigan Wolverines head football coach Sherrone Moore was reportedly detained by police in Saline, Michigan, on Wednesday, hours after the university announced he had been fired for engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.

The Saline City Police Department told ESPN that officers helped locate and detain Moore, who was then turned over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department “for investigation into possible charges.”

Hours earlier, Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel wrote in a statement that “credible evidence was found that Coach Moore had an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.”

“The conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and UM maintains zero tolerance for such behavior,” Manuel added.

Following news of the police investigation, the University of Michigan Athletic Department told News Digital that it “cannot comment on personnel matters” and had “nothing to share beyond the initial statement.”

The Saline Police Department referred inquiries to the Pittsfield Township Police Department, which did not immediately respond to News Digital’s request for additional information.

Francis Xavier “Biff” Poggi was named interim head coach and will be on the sidelines when Michigan faces Texas in the Citrus Bowl on December 31. Earlier this season, Poggi replaced Moore in two games while the head coach was serving a suspension for his role in a sign-stealing scandal.

Moore is married to his wife, Kelli. The two married in 2015 and have three daughters together.
