Powerful 6.3 Magnitude earthquake Shakes Central Colombia

A powerful magnitude earthquake of 6.3 hit the center Colombia On early Sunday, sending residents, said the United States geological service. No victims were reported immediately.

The shallow earthquake hit at 8:08 am at a depth of 6.2 miles to about 10.5 miles from the city of Pararatebueno, which is about 116 miles southeast of the capital of Bogotá. The residents said they felt the tremor in cities such as Medellin, Cali and Manizales.

The Colombian geological service reported additional tremors with magnitudes ranging from 4 to 4.6 that occurred in the same area minutes later.

The National Unit for Disaster Risk Management said in X that it was evaluating the situation in several municipalities.

The images published on social networks showed people in Bogotá that they felt the tremor, some left their workplaces to seek security. The images of the rural areas indicated that there was no damage.

“It was a great scare,” Carlos Alberto Ruiz, 54, told News, who left his Bogotá apartment with his wife, son and dog.

“It has been a while since we were so strong here in Bogotá,” said Francisco González, a lawyer who also fled his house.

Colombia is in the Pacific Fire Ring, a region known for frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
