Prince Harry’s Deadpan Dig on Trump Draws Gasps in Surprise Colbert Cameo
Prince Harry stormed Wednesday’s broadcast of “The Late Show” and criticized Donald Trump for his apparent monarchical aspirations.
Host Stephen Colbert was mid-monologue, joking about how Christmas movies give people an unrealistic hope of running into royalty during the holidays, when Harry suddenly came on stage (for a skit) in which he announced that he thought he was auditioning for a Hallmark holiday TV movie.
Colbert asked the Duke of Sussex why he wanted the job.
“Well, you Americans are obsessed with Christmas movies and you’re clearly obsessed with royalty, so why not?” Harry replied.
Colbert responded by saying that he doesn’t think Americans are obsessed with the monarchy.
Harry responded to Trump: “Really?!? I heard you ‘elected’ a king.”
Audience members appeared to gasp and then burst into pantomime boos toward Trump, and Colbert admitted, “Fair enough.”

Harry, who has drawn Trump’s ire several times, continued to lean into the topic, saying he would “do anything” to land a role on Hallmark.
“I’ll make a tape, I’ll fly to an audition,” he said, before taking another swipe at Trump and the companies that have kowtowed to him: “I’ll settle a baseless lawsuit with the White House, all the things you guys do on TV.”
“Hey, hey, hey… I didn’t do any of those things,” Colbert protested.
Harry deadpanned, “Maybe that’s why you’re cancelled.”
The joke referenced News’ decision this summer to end “The Late Show” in May 2026, a move the network called “a purely financial decision” and not related to content or Colbert’s performance.
Still, the cancellation raised eyebrows because it came shortly after Paramount Global reached a legal settlement with Trump and sought White House approval for its merger with Skydance Media.
