Miyares is the incumbent in the race, while Jones is a former member of the Virginia House of Delegates. His career was rocked by scandal when previous writings by Jones were discovered that featured inflammatory rhetoric and suggestions of violence toward his political opponents. Jones apologized, but Miyares said he did not accept the apology.
