News Business’ Charles Gasparino sounded the alarm over a “scary” poll showing voters in all the major swing states overwhelmingly disapprove of President Donald Trump for the first time since his return to office.

Declining support for Trump in competitive regions could hurt Republicans as the 2026 midterm elections approach, Newsweek noted.

Regarding Newsweek’s story about the Morning Consult poll, Gasparino wrote on Wednesday

Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina — all swing states captured by Trump in his victory over Democrat Kamala Harris — are now home to more voters who disapprove than approve of the president’s job performance, according to the poll.

Gasparino, a senior correspondent, went on to partly blame Democrats for the economy’s problems.

He wrote that the economy “doesn’t suck, but it’s still not good enough to make up for the lack of purchasing power lost during the Biden years.” Consumer prices rose 21.5% during Biden’s term, FactCheck.org confirmed. However, inflation has increased in three of the last four months despite Trump’s claim that “inflation has been defeated.”

Gasparino said Trump’s tariffs are a source of voter disapproval because the middle United States is paying the price, and also dampened optimism about the stock market.

Two potential gubernatorial races will take place outside of those battleground states in November. Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears and former Democratic House Rep. Abigail Spanberger are running in Virginia, while Democratic House Rep. Mikie Sherrill and Republican Jack Ciattarelli are vying for the state’s top spot in New Jersey.
