Republican senator pokes holes in Trump’s latest attack on Gavin Newsom with a simple question
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) assumes the presidency donald trump”s latest foray into blatant ableism is quite personal.
The Republican legislator was asked by the Independent Wednesday about his thoughts on Trump’s latest attack on California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).

On Monday, the president told reporters in the Oval Office that Newsom, whom Trump has nicknamed “Newscum,” is Unfit to be president because he has dyslexia.a type of learning disability that makes reading difficult.
“With a person with a low IQ, you know, because Gavin ‘Newscum’ has admitted that he has learning disabilities,” Trump said. A man who looked at a solar eclipse with his naked eyes.saying. “Honestly, I’m all for people with learning disabilities, but not my president. I don’t want to… I think the president shouldn’t have learning disabilities.”

While responding to the Independent on Wednesday, Murkowski began with a simple question.
“Shouldn’t my son run for president?” asked Murkowski, who confirmed to the outlet that her son suffers from the condition.
“He’s one of the smartest guys I know,” she said of her son. “I guess sometimes you have to look at it in the context in which he said it, but I don’t think those with a level of disability should automatically be excluded from being president.”

Michelle Qazi, president of the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA), told News themezone on Wednesday that a diagnosis of dyslexia does not equate to “low IQ.”
“That is absolutely inaccurate,” Qazi said. “When students go through all the testing to get a dyslexia diagnosis, there are IQ tests involved, and their IQ scores are really high.”
Newsom has recently been busy promoting his new memoir in which he writes about his experiences living with dyslexia, and he’s more than happy to talk about how his condition makes him “no better” than ordinary Americans. (especially those who can vote!) during conferences. This, along with Newsom’s admission that he is considering running for president in 2028it is likely that your condition is lot on Trump’s radar.

As for Murkowski, the moderate Republican tends to be a little more critical of Trump than his more sycophantic colleagues, and was one of seven Republican senators who will vote to convict Trump after January 6. she too opposed the appointment from Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth.
So Trump not a fan of it, but neither are some Democrats. In 2022, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) Damn Murkowski after the senator expressed his dismay at Roe v. Wade being overturned by the Supreme Court even though Murkowski voted in 2020 to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett, who was outspoken about her pro-life beliefs. Murkowski has no problem either giving journalists death glares when asked to comment on the voting on extremely unpopular bills.
