Trump says that Ukraine can recover territory
Russia retreated Wednesday in the comments made by President Trump, who belittled Moscow’s abilities and military economy and said Ukraine could potentially recaptured The entire territory seized by the Russian forces since President Vladimir Putin launched the large -scale invasion more than three years ago.
He marked a dramatic change in rhetoric for Trump, who previously urged Ukraine to make concessions to end the conflict, but there were no indications that the president also changed the United States policy to offer more direct support to kyiv.
“Russia you have been Fighting Aimlessly for Three and a Half Years to War Should Have Taken A Real Militory Power Less Than A Week to Win. Said in a Social Media Post On Tuesday, Shortly After He met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy On The Sidelines of The UN General Assembly in New York.
“I think Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is in a position to fight and win Ukraine in its original form. With time, patience and financial support in Europe and, in particular, NATO, the original borders where this war began, is a great option,” Trump said. “Putin and Russia are in great economic problems, and this is the time that Ukraine acts.”
“President Trump heard about what is happening in the Zelenskyy version, and apparently, at that time, this version became the reason for such evaluation,” Peskov said in an interview with RBC Radio in Russia on Wednesday morning. “We continue our special military operation to guarantee our interests and achieve the objectives that the Supreme Commander in Chief Putin and the president of our country established from the beginning.”
Peskov said that Russia’s “premium markets were no longer in Europe, but in the east, and that the country was economically stable.
“Russia is associated with a bear. There are no paper bears. And Russia is a real bear … there is nothing here,” said Peskov. “Russia maintains macroeconomic stability. Yes, Russia is experiencing certain points of tension and problematic points in different sectors of the economy, which is inevitably connected with those myriads of economic restrictions, which we face, and so on, with the global economic disorder. This is not just sanctions.
Separately, in an informative session later on Wednesday, Peskov told reporters: “The fact that they try in all the senses encouraging Ukraine to continue military operations, and the idea that Ukraine can recover anything, in our opinion, is a wrong proposal.”
Zelenskyy appeared on Wednesday to the United Nations General Assembly, making a plea that “we need to restore international cooperation for peace and security.”
“People are still dying every week, but there is no fire, because Russia refuses,” said Zelenskyy.
The United States is the most important taxpayer for NATO and the largest weapons supplier in Ukraine, but Trump wants the United States European allies to assume more of the continent defense burden, including support for Ukraine. The president, sometimes, has echoed the Kremlin narrative about the war, alarming NATO’s allies, and it was not clear if US politics on Ukraine would change after the apparent rhetorical change of Mr. Trump.
“He acknowledged that the conflict is more complicated and is clearly frustrated with Putin, so I think it may be a success for Ukrainian and European diplomacy that has passed that explanation,” said Neil Melvin, director of international security in the group of British experts Rusi, to the Reuters news agency. “The narrative around what he is saying has changed, but he still seems to be making the United States to lead the conflict. It is returning to Europe all the time.”
Melvin told Reuters that Mr. Trump’s rhetoric could change again.
“I think we are always a call to Putin far from a change, and that is why I believe that fundamentally the first eight months have eroded confidence in Europe in the Trump administration approach, and this does not restore trust,” said Melvin.
Despite Trump’s apparent change in Ukraine, Peskov said the relationship between US and Russian leaders remained friendly.
“They know each other for a long time, and in fact they are respected. They are treated warmly,” said Peskov. “This does not prevent them from talking about acute issues. It does not prevent them from diverting in many issues. After all, each of them has their own interests.”
