Russian state media say that American Joseph Tater outside the country after arrest, psychiatric hospitalization

Joseph Tater, a US. Citizen arrested in Russia in August 2024 After an apparent fight with the hotel staff and then admitted by force in a psychiatric hospital in April of this year, without trial, Russia has left, according to the country’s state Tass news agency.

Tass said Tater, 46, was discharged from a psychiatric center in Moscow, where he spent more than a month.

In April, Tass reported that Tater had been examined by doctors and diagnosed with a mental disorder, and then admitted for mandatory psychiatric treatment.

Tater was accused by the Russian authorities to abuse the hotel staff in Moscow after his initial arrest. Later, the authorities said he was also being investigated under suspicion of assaulting a police officer, a position that could have seen him face up to five years in prison.

Tater said during a judicial hearing that the US Central Intelligence Agency. And was looking for political asylum in Russia.
