Clarksdale, Miss. (AP) – Hundreds of people full inside a local auditorium on Thursday to watch the successful “Sinners” film, set in their community and soaked in the Mississippi delta culture.

The special projection of the successful horror film included an appearance of director Ryan Coogler and was possible thanks to a community request.

“I have a Mississippi family, my uncle, my grandfather, and I had never been until I worked in this script,” Coogler said, heading to the crowd. “It really changed me, just to come here.”

The film, starring Michael B. Jordan as twins, these are two brothers who arrive home to Mississippi to throw a board. It is also a supernatural vampire film that combines elements of drama, action and music.

The composer of “sinners” Ludwig Göransson, actor Miles Canton and others who worked in the film also attended the projection.

“Every time the filmmakers take the time to pay tribute to the Delta, especially, because we are the root of music, the culture of blues, that means a lot,” said Brandice Brown Williams, a theater teacher who brought two of his students to the projection.

The film is set in the 1930s Clarksdale, Mississippi, but the current Clarksdale day does not have a movie theater, which makes people difficult to see the film about their hometown. The organizers of the community decided to change that, starting a request to invite the cast and the team to Clarksdale and collaborate in the public organization.

“The love you have for the people of the South, Mississippians and Clarksdale came alive through your commitment to write to us well,” said community organizer Tyler Yarbrough. “We are ready. We are waiting. And we would be proud to welcome you back where it all started.”

During the projection, the crowd was expressive, in response to several scenes, they pulled, laughed and cheered. Then, Coogler and others stayed for a Q&A.
