Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) dismissed President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address as an empty ego trip that failed to address Americans’ everyday struggles during a morning-after briefing on MS NOW Wednesday.
Describing the drawn-out 108-minute speech as a “state of illusion,” the veteran Democrat called Trump’s historically long national address “a bunch of lies” cushioned by pure “nonsense.”
“He loves to pat himself on the back,” Schumer told “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough, pointing out how the president did absolutely nothing to mention the ever-rising cost of living that has Americans in suspense.

“I’m paying 10% more for meat. My healthcare bills are going up and Donald Trump isn’t even talking about it,” he said.
Schumer also mocked Trump for using the US gold medal-winning hockey team as a prop for self-aggrandizement, commenting: “He had so little good to say about what he’s doing that he had to spend much of his time talking about real American heroes he had nothing to do with.”
“This speech was a complete failure for Donald Trump,” he continued. “It was a lot of hype. It was a lot of nonsense. But when you’re having a hard time paying the bills and you hear your president making fun of you about it, you get angry.”
“This speech was a disaster for Donald Trump because he’s in a bubble,” Schumer continued, noting that the president “didn’t provide any path” to solving America’s affordability crisis and that there was “just a lot of ego and back-slapping” in his comments.
