Shaboozey can’t hide the shock after the country star says something unexpected
Country Shaboozey rapper and singer had difficulty hiding his confusion in the 2025 American Music Awards.
The ceremony, which was broadcast on Monday, was the first production of the program since November 2022 and was broadcast live from Las Vegas, Nevada. When Shaboozey took the stage Together with the artist Country Megan Moroney to present the prize to the favorite duo or field group, a curious moment was held.
“Country music has been an important part of Ama’s story,” Shaboozey said, reading a teleprompter.
The couple continued with a brief tribute to the legacy of the genre on the Ama stage, until Moroney deviated in what some can call revisionist history.

“And this award went to the Carter family, which basically invented country music,” he said.
A bewildered Shaboozey stopped slightly and let out a nervous giggle, all while giving a side eye to what came out of Moroney’s mouth. The “good news” singer remained professional at the time and continued along with his task, but he was realized that he was still confused about what he had just heard.
Moroney was referring to the Carter family, an American folk music group often called “the first family of country music”, According to him Fame Hall and Country Museum.
But Shaboozey’s visible discomfort was not exempt from context.
It echoed a long data tension within the world of country music, one where the history of genre is often simplified, disinfects and its black roots are cleaned. The Carter family itself was influenced by a black artist, Lesley Riddle.
Shaboozey turned to X, previously Twitter, to address the moment, referring to Riddle and other musicians who influence the genre.
