Shapiro refuses the schumers of hate crime investigation:
The governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro (D), refused to support a call for federal prosecutors to open a hate crime investigation into a fire attack in his house this week, saying “it is not my work”, but more leaders need to “condemn this type of violence.”
“I know how ex -prosecutor how important the evidence is to continue and apply the law and do it without fear or favor. In this case, I am the victim of the crime, I am not the prosecutor,” he told George Stephanopoulos of “Good Morning America” during a tutorial of the destruction of his house.
Shapiro, standing in the midst of the damage with his wife, was excited while recourseing the celebration of his family from Easter on Jewish vacations with members of the community in one of the great rooms only a few hours before the fire got there.

“We were probably up to probably almost midnight and then we climbed the stairs, maybe we were lying around 1 o’clock and then this happened about an hour later,” he said.
The suspect of a fire, Cody Balmer, who was arrested shortly after From the fire, I was allegedly upset with Shapiro for his “injustices perceived to the people of Palestine,” authorities said.
Shapiro had condemned Hamas’ violent attack against Israel in October 2023 and last year required the dismantling of a Pro Palestinian camp at the University of Pennsylvania.
Senator Chuck Schumer (DN.Y.) responded on Thursday urging Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate the fire caused as a crime of hate. Shapiro, however, called those premature calls.

“I am not sure that it is useful for people from abroad to weigh with their opinions here, George. It doesn’t matter who they are,” he said.
He urged other leaders to stand up and talk against such acts of violence, saying that “it must be universally convicted.”
“I don’t care if you come from the left, from the right. I don’t care if you come from someone you voted or someone you didn’t vote for. Someone in your team or someone in the other team. I think each leader has the responsibility of speaking and acting with moral clarity and condemning this type of violence,” he said.
He also retreated the Republican representative Dan Meuser suggesting that the governor has partial responsibility of what happened due to his rhetoric against President Donald Trump.

“Our hearts are with the Shapiro family in this. But you know, they also have to mitigate it. I mean, every action that Josh Shapiro has taken so far against the president has been a demand or a falsehood,” said Meuser in an interview on Tuesday.
“I think the leaders have the responsibility of speaking and acting with moral clarity and that private congressman once again failed,” Shapiro replied.
