The son of Norway’s crown princess, who will go on trial in February accused of raping four women, has been charged with new crimes, including a “serious narcotics offense,” prosecutors said Monday.

Marius Borg Hoibyson of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of another relationship before marrying Crown Prince Haakon, was charged on August 18, four rapes and 28 other crimesincluding acts of violence against ex-girlfriends.

Prosecutor Sturla Henriksbo said in a statement sent to News that another indictment was filed against Hoiby, 29, on Monday, covering a total of six charges.

One was a “felony narcotics offense” dating back to a 2020 incident “involving 3.5 kilos of marijuana.” Hoiby admitted to the crime, Henriksbo said.

Hoiby’s lawyer, Ellen Holager Andenaes, told Norwegian news agency NTB that her client “once transported marijuana from A to B without earning a cent.”

Two of the charges involved violations of restraining orders, while three others were traffic violations for speeding a motorcycle, Henriksbo said.

“The additional indictment will now be sent to the Oslo district court for consideration during the main hearing, which begins on February 3,” he said.

Hoiby was arrested on August 4, 2024, suspected of having attacked his then-girlfriend.

Hoiby denies the most serious charges against him but plans to plead guilty to some lesser charges, his lawyer Petar Sekulic told the Reuters news agency last year.

“He does not agree with the allegations about rape and domestic violence,” Sekulic told Reuters.

In a public statement ten days after his arrest in August 2024, Hoiby said that he had acted “under the influence of alcohol and cocaine following an argument”, that he had suffered “mental problems” and that he had “long struggled with substance abuse”.

The four rapes allegedly took place in 2018, 2023 and 2024, the last after the police investigation began.

This is the biggest scandal that has affected the Norwegian royal family.

Hoiby was raised by the royal couple along with his half-siblings, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus, aged 21 and 19.

Unlike them, it has no official public role.

The trial will take place at Oslo District Court from February 3 to March 13.
