A surfer on a popular Sydney beach was killed by death by a suspected “big shark” on Saturday, said Australian police, in a rare fatal attack.
The 57 -year -old man was sailing with friends in the Pacific waters, in front of the reef and Dee from northern Sydney, why the attack occurred, authorities said.
The man, an experienced surfer with a wife and a little daughter, lost “several limbs,” the Superintendent of the New Wales of the South, John Ducan, told reporters.
“I understand that both he and his table disappeared under water,” he said. “The body was found floating in the waves.”

A couple of surfers saw him in the water and took him to the shore, Duncan said.
“Unfortunately, by then, we understand that he probably lost a lot of blood and attempts to resurrect him were not successful,” he said.

The nearby people saw the ocean predator, according to the police, who said that they believed that a “great shark” attacked man.
Government experts will examine the remains of the surf table and the man’s body to help them determine the species of sharks involved, police said.
There are about 100 shark species in Western Australia, according to Sharksmart, a website led by Australian officials that warns about shark activity and offers advice on how to stay safe. Most species are able to hurt humans, but an “overwhelming majority is not aggressive in most circumstances.” The most serious shark bites in Australia who love the ocean are large whites, bull sharks and tigers sharks.
After the incident, the nearby beaches closed for at least 24 hours. The drones and lifeguards of surfing in aquatic skis were patrolling the beaches for shark activity.
Fatal shark attacks are rare. In 2024, there were only seven fatal attacks, including four unprovoked attacks, worldwide, according to research carried out by the International Shark Attack Archive, a database led by the Florida Natural History Museum and the University of Florida.
In general, shark attacks decreased dramatically by 2024 and were well below the annual average.
This was the first fatal shark attack in Sydney since 2022, when a 35 -year -old British diving instructor was killed to Little Bay. The previous fatal attack in the city was in 1963. Australia’s last mortal shark attack was in March, when a Surfer was taken from the remote Wharton beach in Western Australia.
