President Donald Trump launched a new message aimed at Denmark in a late-night social media post as he continued his attempt to take control of Greenland.

The president wrote on his Truth Social website shortly after 11 p.m. ET:

“NATO has been telling Denmark, for 20 years, that ‘the Russian threat must be removed from Greenland’. Unfortunately, Denmark has been unable to do anything about it. Now is the time and it will be done!!! President Donald J. Trump”

Trump, who wanted to buy Greenland in his first term, has become increasingly belligerent on the issue and has even refused to rule out using force to take the island, which is a semi-autonomous Danish territory.

PBS News reported on Sunday that Trump sent a letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, telling him that since he did not win the Nobel Peace Prize, “I no longer feel obliged to think only about peace.”

Trump reportedly wrote:

Additionally, Trump on Saturday imposed tariffs on eight European nations that he said would be in place until the United States has control over Greenland. Tariffs will be 10% starting February 1 and will increase to 25% in June if no deal is reached.

Trump said earlier this month that he planned to “do something in Greenland whether they like it or not,” adding: “If we don’t do it the easy way, we’ll do it the hard way.”
