President Donald Trump spent part of his weekend in Scotland reviving his old complaints against wind power, even affirming at a time that he was “killing” the Americans.
During a meeting with the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, Trump abruptly deviated from immigration to wind turbines.
“And the other thing I tell Europe: we will not allow a windmill to be built in the United States,” Trump said. “They are killing us.”
Added:
“They are killing the beauty of our landscape, our valleys, our beautiful plains, and I am not talking about airplanes. I am talking about beautiful plains, beautiful areas in the United States, and you look up and see windmills throughout the place. It is a horrible thing. It is the most expensive form of energy. It is not good. They are made in China, almost all of them.”
He complained that the wind turbines “oxidize in eight years”, and then cannot be “buried” because they will damage the ground.
“The whole matter is a scam job,” he said. “It is very expensive. And for justice, Germany tried it and the wind does not work.”
Much of what the president said was very inaccurate: Germany obtains more than a quarter of his wind energy, the turbines last approximately 30 years (not eight) according to the United States Department of Energy, it is not the most expensive form of energy, and they are not “almost all” in China.

Trump, who has often attacked renewable energy, has a special hatred of wind energy that probably began about two decades ago, when a wind farm was proposed near the earth that would become its golf complex in Scotland.
He sued to block him, lost and complained about wind and other forms of renewable energy since then.
He also mentioned it on Sunday.
“Today I am playing the best course that I believe in the world, Turnberry, although I have it, it is probably the best course in the world, right?” said. “And I look at the horizon and see nine windmills … I said: ‘Isn’t it a shame? What shame'”.
Trump has taken his anti-venture to absurd ends, as in 2019, when he falsely said that wind turbines cause cancer.
“The wind, the wind, sounds so wonderful,” he said last year. “The wind, the wind, the wind is, the wind is shit, I will tell you.”
