Matthew Lawrence says he will “never forget” the advice of his late co -star Robin Williams.

The former children’s actor was only 12 when he starred with Williams in “Mrs. Doubtfire”, the 1993 classic about a family fighting for divorce. Lawrence, who played Williams’s son, told Entertainment Weekly on Thursday that they were silently united off the screen.

“His life really explained to me and he really brought me and taught me not only in front of the camera, but also much about the camera behind the camera, and how he felt that substances really pushed his brain not to work properly,” he told The Outlet.

“And he really opened with me, and I will never forget him,” Lawrence continued. “There were times when he grabbed me, and he said: ‘Don’t put those things in your body. If I could return and tell me, that’s why I tell you, don’t put those things in your body.'”

Lawrence did not specify anymore, but Williams had fought with the use of substances such as cocaine and alcohol.

The death of the actor in 2014 of suicide shocked the world, particularly the children of divorce who knew the 63 -year -old man as the determined father of “Doubtfire.”

“He really quantified what it was to be a true artist for me,” Lawrence told EW, and added that “he was definitely the brightest artist with whom I have worked. But in addition to that, he had compassion, he had humility, and also had these things he fought with.”

Later, an autopsy revealed that Williams had been living with Lewy’s body disease, a form of dementia that affects the areas of the brain involved in movement, memory and thought.

Williams had openly discussed his substance struggles throughout his career and even shared past moments of relapses with the world. In an interview with The Guardian in 2010, he recalled to leave alcohol in 1983, but starting again in 2003.

“I was in a small town where it is not the edge of the world, but you can see it from there, and then I thought: drink … Maybe drinking will help,” he told The Outlet. “Because I felt alone and scared. It was about working so much and going to shit, maybe it will help.”
