Desperate search for survivors after Myanmar’s earthquake
Four days after a huge Earthquake buildings overthrown in MyanmarThe isolated stories were still emerging on Monday from people who were taken from the rubble. The confirmed number of deaths has continued to increase from the disaster, reaching at least 2,056 on Monday, according to the French news agency News citing the ruling military board in the country.
It is likely that the number of deaths increases even more, since many parts of the country have been cut. Obtaining help for those in need, and even evaluating the scope of destruction, has been difficult in a country where the key infrastructure was seriously damaged and where a civil war He had already been furious before the earthquake of magnitude 7.7 hit Friday. There have been significant replicas in its path.
The occasional rescue may have helped to keep hope alive during the weekend, but they were the lucky ones.
Building after building in the second largest city in Myanmar, Mandalay and beyond the ruins. Damaged roads, bridges and fallen electricity lines have made it impossible for rescue teams to reach many communities of the impoverished nation that has been wrapped by the war since the Board confiscated power in a coup d’etat four years ago.

Only a few hours after the great earthquake hit on Friday, there were reports that the Board had carried out air attacks in areas controlled by the rebels that were affected by the tremor, aggravating the misery for the survivors.
In neighboring Thailand, the earthquake felt strongly in the capital of Bangkok, but only a large building collapsed completely. Thai authorities have ordered investigation into this isolated collapse to determine if it could have been due to inadequate construction materials, design defects or a failure in the inspection process.
The Board has maintained its strict controls in foreign journalists entering Myanmar, but has requested international help. Until Monday, China, Russia and India had responded with humanitarian supplies and rescue and recovery equipment in the field, along with other regional neighbors.
President Trump said the United States would be helping, but although the United States has long played a main role in international disaster relief, Trump has destroyed foreign aid spending in the first two months of his second term, including a virtual Usaid abolition agency.
The programs that would generally have galvanized to hurry in American aid could be much less capable of providing assistance following the disaster that is still developed in Myanmar.
