New York (AP) – The Mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, insisted again on Friday that will not finish his re -election campaign, emphasizing that he will remain in the race as reports that he has approached him to have been contacted to take a job in the Trump administration.

Adams has spent the week defending the news reports that President Donald Trump’s intermediaries had contacted people in the mayor’s orbit to talk about whether he would consider leaving his campaign to take federal work.
On Friday, Adams, a Democrat, issued a statement that said “will always hear if it is called to serve our country”, but that he had not yet received any “formal offer.”

Trump has told reporters that he would prefer not to have Mamdani, 33, as the next mayor of the largest city in the United States. He said he would like to see two of the other three important candidates face Mamdani, the other two are former governor Andrew Cuomo, who like Adams is postulated as an independent, and Republican Curtis Sliwa leaves the race to create a unique contest.
Moments after Adams’s announcement, White House journalists asked President Donald Trump. “It’s free to do what you want,” Trump said about Adams.
Trump continued: “Cuomo could have the opportunity to win if one by one”, while adding “if you have more than one candidate (mamdani), you can’t win.”
During a trip to Florida this week, Adams met with Steve Witkoff, a former real estate developer in New York, who is now one of Trump’s main diplomatic envoys in Washington, according to an informed person about the discussions he spoke with the News about the condition of anonymity due to the private nature of the conversations. It was not clear what was specifically discussed.
In an interview, the former New York Democratic governor, David Paterson, said he spoke with the mayor on Wednesday morning. Adams told him that he wanted to remain in the race but had received offers, according to Paterson.
“He said: ‘Listen, they say I have some offers. I have many offers.’ Then he started laughing.
“It was not specific about it, but I understood it in his heart, he really wants to stay. But I also understood, although he did not say, that the probabilities cannot be very good,” he added.
Mamdani won the Democratic nomination after deeply defeating Cuomo in the primaries. Cuomo is postulated as independent, like Adams, who skipped the Democratic primaries, saying that he was stopped campaigning for his federal bribery case now distracted.
