The medical invention of the adolescent saves lives in seconds

What would happen if stopping potentially deadly bleeding could be as simple as injecting a gel? A medical advance born in a wineries laboratory

The story behind Traumagel begins with a teenager in a winery laboratory. Joe Landolina, now CEO of Cresilon, developed technology when he was only 17 years old.

“My grandfather was a retired chemist who owned a vineyard in the state of New York,” says Landolina. “I would work next to him in his winery laboratory every day after school from a very early age. During that time, I developed a strong love for chemistry, especially chemicals based on ingredient plants that are found in nature around me.”

That love became research. “At age 17, I was experiencing with polymers extracted from algae cell walls and discovered a matrix that would instantly joined the living fabric,” he said.

He took the idea of ​​the business plans of the University of New York, and Cresilon was born. The company now operates from a 55,000 square -feet biomanocation installation in Brooklyn with almost 100 employees.

“Traumagel has impacted the way we respond to traumatic injuries in any situation,” says Lieutenant David Kleiman of Fire and Emergency Services of Cobb County. “In the past, with junction injuries, such as neck, armpit or groin, we were using traditional methods such as digital pressure or wound packaging. That required multiple crews and took time.

“With Traumagel, we can administer a hemostatic agent that controls bleeding in seconds,” he continues. “Crews can go to faster evaluations and treatments and bring the patient to faster definitive care.”

How he saved a fireman’s life

In a recent case, a Cobb County firefighter was injured during an answer in an abandoned house. He pulled a hill, cut his hand on broken glass and tried to stop bleeding. But it didn’t work.

“He finally realized that he could not control the bleeding and returned to the engine,” Kleiman recalls. “The crew said it was pale and sweaty and that his participation team was saturated with blood. Traditional methods failed, so they administered Traumel. Instantly he stopped the bleeding.”

Then, the firefighter was treated for blood loss and recovered completely after surgery.

Of the fire department departments to the Department of Defense

Cresilon’s bleeding control gel is being tested in even more demanding environments.

“In addition to putting traumel in the hands of all lifeguards throughout the country,” says Landolina, “our patented technology is being studied for broader applications by the Walter Reed Army Research Institute of the United States Department of Defense.”

That study focuses on penetrating traumatic brain lesions (TBI). “Preliminary findings demonstrated promising results in the ability of our technology to control bleeding and provide neuroprotection after an LCT,” he says. The team plans to carry out more research based on those results.
