The White House Budget Office tells agencies to write mass shooting plans before the possible closure
Washington (AP)-The White House tells agencies to prepare large-scale layoffs of federal workers if the government closes next week.
In a memorandum published on Wednesday night, the Office of Administration and Budget said that the agencies should consider a reduction of the force for federal programs whose lagarÃa financing next week, is not financed otherwise and “is not consistent with the president’s priorities.” That would be a much more aggressive step than in the previous closures, when federal workers who were not considered essential were suspended, but returned to their work once Congress approved government spending.
A reduction in force would not only fire employees, but would eliminate their positions, which would trigger another massive agitation in a federal workforce that has already faced large rounds of cuts this year due to the efforts of the Government Efficiency Department and in other parts of the Trump administration.
Once any possible closure of the Government ends, the agencies that review their reduction in the force plans “are requested as necessary to retain the minimum number of employees necessary to carry out legal functions,” according to the Memo, that Pholico reported for the first time.

This OMB movement significantly increases the consequences of a possible closure of the government next week and increases the pressure on the leader of the Chuck Schumer Senate minority and the minority leader of the representatives chamber, Hakeem Jeffries. They have kept almost all democratic legislators attached against a Clean Financing Law promoted by President Donald Trump and the Republicans of Congress that would keep the federal government operating for seven more weeks.
OMB said he celebrated his first planning call with other federal agencies earlier this week to plan a closure. The Budget Office plays the point in the management of federal government closures, particularly planning them in advance. The previous budgetary offices have also published closing contingency plans, which would describe which agency workers would remain at work during a government closure and that would be seen on their websites, but this has not done so.
The memorandum said that Congress Democrats refuse to support a Financing Law of the Clean Government “due to their partisan demands”, which include an extension of improved health insurance subsidies that will expire at the end of the year, in addition to a reversal of the medical cuts that were included in the great tax and expenses of the Republicans.
“As such, it has never been more important for the administration to be prepared for a closure if the Democrats choose to pursue one,” says the memorandum, which also points out that the Signature Law of the Republican Party, an important package of fiscal and border expenses, offers “broad resources to ensure that many central Trump administration priorities continue without interruptions.”
OMB said he had asked all the agencies to present his plans in case of a government closure before August 1.
