This comedian wants to help him escape and maybe even forget about Trump for an hour

After 17 years in the standing circuit, Matteo Lane is pulling jokes to his greatest audience to date, with a boost of Hulu.

Lane launched her first special comedy special, “The Al Dente Special”, in Hulu last week. Filmed before a live audience in Los Angeles, the special capture to the comedian born in Chicago in a deliciously irreverent form, leaving Zingers about their Italian and Mexican relatives and their meetings with Oprah Winfrey, Mariah Carey and Katy Perry. Along the way, he faces the current falls of navigating the world as a gay man with moderate ingenuity.

The launch of “The Al Dente Special” limits a prolific spring for Lane, who concluded a two -year comedy tour with a show on Radio City Music Hall in New York in April. That same month, he announced “your paste stinks”, a playful cookbook in which it serves Italian recipes with Snark and Sass. In March, he made a well -received guest appearance at “Abbott Elementary.”

As for what he would like the public to take away his last work, Lane replied: “Escapism.”

“I always felt that my stand-up is as if I were up to date with a friend at the Brunch, reviewing what happened last year in my life,” Lane said in an interview with News. “This is how I tell stories with my family and friends. Anything that feels genuine and organic for me is more important than making a giant statement.”

He continued observing: “Ok, I’m not healing all the problems of the world. But you know what? I have had many people who send me a message that says: ‘You are the first person to make me laugh since my father died. You are the first person to make me laugh from my divorce … For an hour, I can forget the work, I can forget the ex, I can forget the president.’ And that is the goal.

Despite his talent for comedy, Lane studied the performance of the opera and, later, worked as a graphic scripts artist and fashion illustrator before following the stand-up.

“I saw Margaret Cho, Joan Rivers, that is the type of comedy that I loved,” he explained. “That is what was available for homosexual men at that time. I didn’t have access to Mario Cantone or Jim David. I didn’t see a gay person to make stand-up until 23 years.”

These days, he added: “I feel more connected to the comedy community than any other community. I am with people who think weird.”

According to all accounts, Lane enjoys success on multiple platforms these days. Since 2023, he and his friend Nick Smith have been co-elbitations of a podcast, “I don’t like you”, in which the couple changes the spikes in the beloved movies they hated and what fictitious characters they think they are homosexual, among other Buzzy themes.

Of course, Lane understands that it is not everyone’s tea cup too. Last month, the “News Mornings” coanfrerion, Gayle King, was beaten with online criticism when he cited one of Lane’s jokes that contains an anti-gay insult literally in the air.

Since then, Lane has defended King and laughed publicly from the reaction. “People are trying to find drama. Who does shit care?” He told Variety last week. “Gayle King said ‘Faggotry’: he carries a wig for the love of God. Who cares? She can say it.”

After “The Al Dente Special”, Lane expects a relaxed summer, with only a handful of actions scheduled for the coming weeks. He hopes to use his free time to travel abroad and create new jokes: “If I am not living a life, I will have nothing to talk to the stage.”

And although “The Al Dente Special” is ready to lift Lane’s profile in Hollywood, fans should not expect too much about their current path in the future.

“He finally reached a point where I feel that I can have an idea for a project, continue with him and make fewer people say no. That is a great feeling,” he said. “However, in the center, all I want to do is stand until I die. That’s for me. Whether it is a movie or a television show, I just want to make stand-up.”
