The secretary of the Treasury, Scott Besent, weighed on Tuesday at the controversial summit of President Donald Trump in Alaska with Russian President Vladimir Putin last week.

While appearing in the “Squawk box” of CNBC, Besent told the host Joe Kernen wanted to “make things clear” about how the meeting was.

The Trump administration official compared the meeting with “inviting his uncontrollable neighbor to his house and showing him his case of weapons.”

Calling Trump’s follow -up meeting on Monday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the White House “very well”, Bessent declared that he has a “strong belief” that Trump will eventually help ensure a meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy.

“We had a very good meeting with [Zelenskyy] and your team in the oval [Office] For about an hour and a half, and then we met with the European leaders who [were] An incredible group to have in the White House, all led by President Trump, ”said Besent.

He added: “And yes, the culmination of that was a call to President Putin, and my strong belief is that there will be a bilateral meeting between President Putin and President Zelenskyy. And that is the only way to finish this conflict, is to make the two parties speak.”

“Both sides are ready for this terrible [Ukraine-Russia] Conflict to finish, ”said Bessent later.
