Ukraine Allies Meeting in Europe
The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, met Thursday with European leaders in Paris, along with the envoy of President Trump Steve Witkoff, to discuss continuous efforts to negotiate the end of the Russian war against their country that includes security guarantees for the nation torn from the war.
Trump has been pressing so that Russia and Ukraine reach an agreement to end the War caused by the large -scale invasion of Russia On February 24, 2022, and the French news agency News said that European leaders gathered in Paris celebrated a videoconference with the president of the United States just after their meeting on Thursday.
A White House official confirmed that call to News themezone, added that Trump had emphasized that Europe should stop buying Russian oil who is financing the war, since Russia received 1,100 million euros in EU fuel sales in a year. “
Trump also urged European leaders to “exercise economic pressure on China to finance Russian war efforts.”

European nations have reduced their purchases of Russian fossil fuels since the Ukraine War began, but they have not finished. The EU nations are working to replace Russian gas and oil with fuel from other sources, but the continent depends on the cheap energy of Moscow for many years, and most of the nations will take years to achieve Russia’s energy independence.
Meanwhile, European nations led by Great Britain and France have been working to ensure the White House guarantee that any troop they send to guarantee long -term military support for Ukraine once the fire arises will have in force the US support.
The French presidency shared a video of the meeting on the social networks that showed Witkoff on the table, shaking hands and greeting Zelenskyy with a hug. The Ukrainian presidential press secretary, Serhii Nikiforov Zelenskyy, told News that Zelenskyy and Witkoff also held a meeting behind closed doors.

Witkoff was invited to participate in the so-called “coalition of the” arranged “to discuss help for Ukraine, including the drawing of plans for military support in case of Alto El Fuego in the War of Russia-Ukraine, to dissuade the future Russian aggression, officials said to the News.
The French president, Emmanuel Macron, and the British prime minister, Keir Starmer, who run the group, have insisted that any European force of “tranquility” in Ukraine needs the support of the United States.
The head of the European Union, Ursula von der Leyen, said earlier this week that “precise plans” for the international military deployments of the postwar period in Ukraine were being prepared, adding in an interview with the Financial Times that there was a “clear road map” and that President Trump had agreed an “American presence” not specified as a “European background force.
Starmer’s office said after the meeting in Paris on Thursday that the British prime minister “emphasized that the group had an unwavering promise to Ukraine, with the support of President Trump, and it was clear that they now needed to go even further to apply pressure on (Russian president Vladimir) Putin to ensure a cessation of hostilities.”

While Ukraine agreed a proposal of the Trump administration for a high immediate fire, Putin has not yet agreed to meet with Zelenskyy on neutral terrain, instead of suggesting that he comes to Moscow. Despite the growing criticism of Mr. Trump, Putin has continued to press his profits in Ukraine and continued attacking not only military objectives, but also in civil infrastructure, with devastating effects.
The Starmer’s office also mentioned a European coalition decision to supply long -range missiles to Ukraine “to further reinforce the country’s supplies.”
Macron said before Thursday’s meeting that preparatory work on security guarantees had been carried out and that it should now be approved at the political level. However, like von der Leyen, he did not provide any detail.
“The Europeans are ready to provide security guarantees to Ukraine and the Ukrainians the day the peace is signed,” Macron said.
It is not clear what members of the coalition are willing to contribute, including troops on the ground.
Andriy Yermak, chief of cabinet of the Ukrainian President, said Thursday after meeting with Witkoff and other national security advisors that security guarantees “must be strong and effective, in the air, in the sea, in land and in cyberspace.”
President Trump has made it clear that he will not display the US troops in Ukraine as part of any high fire agreement, and the members of his administration have previously suggested that an US role could provide coordination, instead of boots in the field.
In an interview with The Daily Caller published during the weekend, Trump did not rule out the use of American combat aircraft to help European peacekeeping efforts on the ground.
The Zelenskyy government hopes to continue the exchange of American intelligence and air support.
Putin has resisted the idea that Western forces were deployed in Ukraine as part of a peace agreement.
The NATO general secretary, Mark Rutte, dismissed that opposition on Thursday, insisting that Ukraine is “a sovereign country” and, therefore, “it is not for them to decide” in Moscow what security guarantees are implemented.
But until there is a stop the fire, which Putin would have to accept, the post -war security guarantees will remain purely theoretical, and Ukraine will be forced to continue defending the best he can of the incessant attacks of Russia.
Rutte, who attended the Paris meeting virtually, said that a wide coalition of nations was needed to support Ukraine defense against Russian aggression, but also to strengthen Europe to deter Moscow more military actions.
Citing the military and Europeans to intelligence officials who have warned about the Russian plans to attack within the decade of other European countries, most of them in the military alliance led by the United States that Routte currently Helms, said: “We have to make sure that our deterrence is such that they will never try, knowing that our reaction will be devastating.”
Rutte also asked that the world “not be naive about Russia.”
“We know what Putin tries to do and the evidence is in Ukraine while we talk,” he said.
