Trump criticizes journalist for stupid question while greeting Zelenskyy at Mar-A-Lago
President Donald Trump lashed out at a journalist for asking a “dumb question” before his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at Mar-a-Lago on Sunday.
The two met at Trump’s resort in Palm Beach, Florida, for the next round of talks to end Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.
After a reporter asked Trump if he was “prepared to sign a security agreement today” to protect Ukraine, the right-wing leader chastised him for his investigation.
“Well, it depends on what the security arrangements are…” Trump began before pausing mid-sentence to criticize the journalist. “What a stupid question. Nobody even knows what the security agreement is going to say.”
The president continued: “But there will be a security agreement, it will be a strong agreement, and the European nations will be very involved in that. They will be very involved in protection, etc.”
Trump went on to say that “European nations have been really great” and are “very much in line with this meeting.”
“Everyone wants to achieve it and I think they have supported me a lot,” he added.

Another reporter then asked Trump what his reaction was to people who had said that Russia’s recent attacks on Ukraine in recent days show that Russian President Vladimir Putin “isn’t serious.” [reaching a] peace [agreement].”
Russia launched multiple attacks against Ukraine on Saturday, leaving at least one person dead and several others injured.
In response, Trump argued that Ukraine has launched some “very strong attacks” against Russia, before noting that he was not saying that “negatively.”
“There have been some explosions in various parts of Russia and it seems to me that, I don’t know, I don’t think they came from the Congo,” Trump continued. “I don’t think it came from the United States of America. Possibly it came from Ukraine, but I haven’t asked that question; maybe I won’t bother asking.”
He added: “They are fighting a war and we will see what happens… we have two willing parties and two willing countries that want it to end.”
The president said in a Truth Social Sunday post that he “just had a good, very productive phone call” with Putin moments before his meeting with Zelenskyy.
Trump said his message to Putin during their phone call was that “they have to make a deal.” He noted that he believes that “we have the basis for an agreement.”
After his meeting with Zelenskyy, Trump said they covered “95%” of the issues needed to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict that began in 2022.
