Trump diverts important speech to call world leader
President Donald Trump made things weird with Italy’s top politician during a peace summit in Egypt on Monday.
Although the president was there to sign a newly negotiated deal to end the war in Gaza, he couldn’t help but tread into shallow territory as he addressed one of the few female leaders in the room: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
As Meloni stood behind him alongside Keir Starmer of the United Kingdom and Mark Carney of Canada, Trump said: “We have a woman, a young woman, who… I’m not allowed to say it because it’s usually the end of your political career if you say it. She’s a beautiful young woman.”
“Now, if you use the word ‘beautiful’ in America to refer to a woman, it’s the end of your political career,” he complained. “But I’ll take my chances.”
Trump then turned to Meloni and asked, “You don’t mind being called beautiful, do you? Because you are.”
The embarrassing compliment wasn’t Trump’s only bizarre moment at the summit.
During a photo shoot with France’s Emmanuel Macron, he gave him an intense handshake that lasted 27 seconds.

Later, a hot microphone caught Prime Minister Carney jokingly thanking Trump for giving him the “updated” title of “president” during his remarks.
“At least I didn’t say governor,” Trump smiled, winking at the nickname he gave to Carney’s predecessor, Justin Trudeau, when he was threatening to make Canada the 51st state.
