President Donald Trump raged in a late-night social media post Sunday that Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, should be jailed or sent to Somalia.

“There is a $19 billion fraud in Minnesota and Somalia. Fake ‘Congresswoman’ Illhan Omar, a constant complainer who hates America, knows everything there is to know,” the president wrote in a Social Truth Posting. “She should be in prison, or even get a worse punishment, sent back to Somalia, considered one of the worst countries in the world. She could help MAKE SOMALIA GREAT AGAIN!”

The first Somali American to serve in Congress, Omar was born in Somalia and became a U.S. citizen in 2000. She has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2019.

News themezone has reached out to the White House and Omar’s office for comment.

Trump and Omar have been embroiled in an escalating dispute after the right-wing leader repeatedly called for her to be sent back to Somalia. Their rift worsened after the Trump administration launched investigations into social services fraud in Minnesota, and Trump targeted the Somali population in the state.

Trump’s post directed at Omar came after he claimed early Sunday morning in another Truth Social post that she and “corrupt” Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) were “fighting” ICE operations in the state to keep “attention off” the federal fraud investigation in Minnesota.

“ICE is removing some of the world’s most violent criminals from our country and bringing them back home where they belong. Why is Minnesota fighting this? Do they really want murderers and drug dealers moving into their community?” he wrote.

Claiming that among the “thugs who are protesting are many well-paid professional agitators and anarchists,” he continued, “Is this really what Minnesota wants?”

“Corrupt Governor and ‘Congressman’ Omar, who married his brother, doesn’t care because he keeps the spotlight off the $18 billion FRAUD that has taken place in the state! Don’t worry, we’re on it!”

Both Omar and Walz have defended their status.

In December, Trump continued his attacks on Somali immigrants living in Minnesota, accusing them without evidence of being “scammers” and “bad” in a Truth Social post.

He pointed out Omar as “one of the many scammers.” She has not been charged with any crime.

“Send them back to where they came from, Somalia, perhaps the worst and most corrupt country in the world,” he declared.

Meanwhile, Omar has denounced Trump’s “obsession” with her on social media, calling it “beyond strange” in a December 9, 2025 X post.

“He needs serious help. With no economic policies to promote, he is resorting to regurgitating bigoted lies. He remains a national disgrace,” he wrote.
