Trump says Americans will receive $2,000 tariff dividend, Treasury Secretary says it could come in other forms
President Donald Trump said every American will receive at least $2,000 in U.S. tariff revenue.
in a sunday post On Truth Social, Trump noted that the payments would go to everyone except “high-income people.”
“Everyone will be paid a dividend of at least $2,000 per person (not including high-income earners!),” the president wrote, apparently trying to drum up public support for his criticized tariffs.
Trump called his political opponents who have criticized his pro-tariff stance “fools,” claiming that his sweeping tariffs have made the United States more powerful and richer.
“We are now the richest and most respected country in the world, with almost no inflation and a record stock price,” he wrote.
Trump told his 11 million followers on Truth Social that “401ks are the highest in history” and that the country is “receiving trillions of dollars” from the tariffs, which he claimed will help the United States “soon begin to pay down our enormous debt, $37 trillion.”
Trump also alleged that “record investments in the United States, plants and factories” have been “rising everywhere.”
The White House did not immediately respond to News themezone’s request for comment on the president’s plan.

Trump’s post came after the Supreme Court hearing on Nov. 5, where judges from both Democrats and the right expressed concerns about the legality of Trump imposing tariffs without congressional approval. It is unclear when the Supreme Court will rule on the tariff case.
Meanwhile, Trump has relied on a federal law known as the International Emergency Economic Powers Act — an unprecedented move by previous presidents — to enact higher tariffs. Trump has been using the IEEPA as a loophole even though two lower courts and a majority of judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit determined earlier this year that the president does not have the power to do so.
When asked Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” about Trump’s dividend promise, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent appeared to lay out the president’s purported plans, for which there is no formal proposal. Pressed by host George Stephanopoulos to answer whether Trump has a definitive plan for the dividends, Bessent argued that Trump’s dividends could manifest in a variety of economic benefits.
“The $2,000 dividend could come in many shapes and forms, George,” Bessent said. “You know, it could just be the tax cuts that we’re seeing on the president’s agenda. You know, no tip tax, no overtime tax, no Social Security tax.”
